XpressLingo started as a spinoff of another project close to our hearts: XpressAble, an app we built to help a child close to us find words in everyday conversation. That project taught us something simple but powerful — that the right word, offered gently and at the right moment, can turn a frustrating silence into a real connection.
We realized the same problem shows up constantly for travelers. You land in a new country, and suddenly the everyday things — asking for directions, ordering food, thanking someone for their help — become genuinely hard. Not because you don't know what you want to say, but because you don't know how to say it, and there's no time to fumble through a phrasebook while someone is standing in front of you, waiting.
We built XpressLingo on the same foundation as XpressAble — real-time speech understanding, natural suggested responses, and a focus on getting you talking quickly rather than burying you in menus and settings. Tap a button, and it listens. It tells you what was said, gives you a natural way to respond, and shows you exactly how to say it — phonetically, out loud, right when you need it.
It's still early. We're a small, independent team building this one conversation at a time, testing it on real trips, real train stations, and real dinner tables. Every exchange you have with XpressLingo helps make the next traveler's conversation a little smoother.
